about

The band Creal started in the seventh grade in the basement of Ivan's house. Since then, we've had a pretty entertaining run. We dropped a studio album, played dozens of local gigs (nearly all at the same venue), and (kind of) opened for Joe Hertler, Shigeto, The Black Opera, and Mayer Hawthorne. In the summer of 2015, however, the party will end as everyone goes off to college or wherever else fate may take them. Consider "Signals + Noise" as a culmination of six years' shared time. It is a last hurrah.

"Signals + Noise" is a radical departure from our last release, both in style and quality. At the root of this change is years of dedicated practice and a constantly shifting palette of influences. We draw from LCD Soundsystem and Toro y Moi's 2013 work "Anything in Return." The Strokes, Gorillaz, Drake, Blood Orange, Titus Andronicus, and other musical obsessions these past few years have also unwittingly played a part in crafting this album. Yes, this record is eclectic. But we would have it no other way. Creal always has been and always will be unforgivingly off kilter.

There are times when this record is self-serious; there are times when this record doesn't take itself nearly seriously enough. For ourselves, "Signals + Noise" is an album about balance and transition. You may have a different takeaway upon listening to this and that's quite alright. We can be sure, however, that you will find this record to be an acute reflection of our group dynamic, our shared passion, and our great friendship – this record is us.

And just maybe that's something worth listening to.

Track Name: Morningside
Oh, where do I begin
How do I escape my sins
I've started to wonder
If I can come back a second time

The war is over
But the tragedy's just begun
Put the toys away
'Cause break time is over for everyone

We're done putting our necks out
For everyone but us
And we've come to realize
That there's nothing you can trust
We've been asked to fight
For the kids of tomorrow
But if they want peace
They'll have to face their sorrows

Oh, where did I go wrong
How did I slip and fall
I've started to wonder
If lightning will strike a second time

The King is dead
And the empire's soon to fall
I keep my lips sealed
For fear of losing it all

We're done putting our necks out
For everyone but us
And we've come to realize
That there's nothing you can trust
We've been asked to fight
For the kids of tomorrow
But if they want peace
They'll have to face their sorrows
Track Name: On Your Mind
All is quiet on the western front
And everything's as it seems
I thought not that I'd find comfort now
but only in my dreams
Nihilists drink and poets smoke
To face the every day
But in this very moment
I'm finally OK, I'm OK

I didn't really give it
much thought at all
And there were forces at play
The walls were far too tall
If we could fall back now
And caress the tide
There wouldn't be much to do
except run and hide
Tell me now, what's on your mind
'Cause it sure ain't me
Tell me now, what's on your mind
Oh, I'm not your's to keep

Waiting for this day to come
Finally, so true
Memories are starting now
And ending in a few
I don't care anymore
What's happening today
'Cause what's finally important
Is that I'm finally OK, I'm OK

I didn't really give it
much thought at all
And there were forces at play
The walls were far too tall
If we could fall back now
And caress the tide
There wouldn't be much to do
except run and hide
Tell me now, what's on your mind
'Cause it sure ain't me
Tell me now, what's on your mind
Oh, I'm not your's to keep
Track Name: Upon Viewing The Bust Of Plato
Cutting the TV signal
By breaking off the ears
There's some things about the future
That I don't care to hear
Oh I was looking forward
To finally jumping in
But money don't comply
With every bureaucrat's whim

Upon viewing Plato's statue
From the ruins of ancient Greece
I've surmised that life is futile
And we're bound to be deceased
So I ask myself again and again
What makes it all worthwhile?
And I feel strange because it's you
That makes me go the extra mile

Ridden with anxiety
Not knowing what to do
Oh you were quite the cynic
feeling what I felt too
From the critic's table
We cast doubt upon these years
But maybe we find comfort
in the things that we both fear

Upon viewing Plato's statue
From the ruins of ancient Greece
I've surmised that life is futile
And we're bound to be deceased
So I ask myself again and again
What makes it all worthwhile?
And I feel strange because it's you
That makes me go the extra mile
Track Name: White Noise
White noise playing from the stereo
And the lights are set to very low
This place is locked from the outside
And I'm feeling good for the first time
I saw your face and I was hooked
I'd pen you in, but sorry we're booked
This place just ain't for the two of us
This is paradise for the rest of us

White noise playing from the stereo
And the lights are set to very low
This place is locked from the outside
And I'm feeling good for the first time
I saw your face and I was hooked
I'd pen you in, but sorry we're booked
This place just ain't for the two of us
This is paradise for the rest of us
Track Name: Bottle Rocket
I have a meteoric rise
Then I crash right back to Earth
We're counting people in a crowd
But we can never count ourselves
Let's bring the pedals into church
Making shoegaze out of psalms
So clap, so cry, so shut your eyes
And sing along

You can never catch me, catch me
Bottle rocket
You can never catch me, catch me
Bottle rocket

I'm sprinting from Marathon
Leaving all behind
And I have no hindsight
My third eye is blind
Who will be there for me
When my powder's burned?
Light the fuse on purpose
'Cause the favor's been returned

I've been beyond the atlas
shrugged it off to see Atlantis
I find meaning everywhere I go
I'm just the only one to show
You'll hear my anthem play
Inside, outside, night and day
And if you think I'm doing this for you
Then you haven't got a goddamn clue

You can never catch me, catch me
Bottle rocket
You can never catch me, catch me
Bottle rocket

I'm sprinting from Marathon
Leaving all behind
And I have no hindsight
My third eye is blind
Who will be there for me
When my powder's burned?
Light the fuse on purpose
'Cause the favor's been returned

You can never catch me, catch me
Bottle rocket
You can never catch me, catch me
Bottle rocket
Track Name: Amtrak
Drowning deep in joyful noise
That hits my ears with no delay
with broken wills and bleeding pens
It's best to get away

I don't want to think at all
This place is too big for it all
(oh oh oh)
I don't want to think at all
This place is too big for it all
(oh oh oh)

See the scenery passing by
There's nowhere else I'd like to be
I lift my head up to the sky
Drifting in epiphany

I don't want to think at all
This place is too big for it all
(oh oh oh)
I don't want to think at all
This place is too big for it all
(oh oh oh)

Capturing the moment
I know I won't forget
Oh, I know the rain is coming
But I don't mind getting wet

I don't want to think at all
This place is too big for it all
(oh oh oh)
I don't want to think at all
This place is too big for it all
(oh oh oh)

I don't want to think at all
This place is too big for it all
(oh oh oh)
I don't want to think at all
This place is too big for it all
(oh oh oh)
Track Name: The Bear Song
Up at night 'till four AM
Waiting for her to call again
I know it's useless even if I try
My hopes are as dark as a cloudy sky
I wish I'd see you soon
But it's never soon enough
Oh, I thought we'd see this through
But it turned out pretty rough

I'm tired of these sleepless nights
I'm tired of these endless fights
Will someone please turn off these lights
So that I could get some sleep tonight
Oh you tell me that it's all alright
But I really need some sleep tonight
Yes, I really need some sleep tonight
Yes, I really need some sleep tonight

When you turned to me I looked away
I wasn't sure how, or of what to say
And I deserved the heartbreak
Call it karma, to me it's just fate
I've been feeling some kind of blue
Naïve to milestones of something new
Oh, I'm not for you anymore
Don't look to me when there's so much more

I'm tired of these sleepless nights
I'm tired of these endless fights
Will someone please turn off these lights
So that I could get some sleep tonight
Oh you tell me that it's all alright
But I really need some sleep tonight
Yes, I really need some sleep tonight
Yes, I really need some sleep tonight
